چکیده
By A. E. Simpson, M.D. April 25, 1877. The monster which I have to bring under the notice of the Society was brought to me, on 23d March, by a midwife who is in the habit of attending parturient women of the poorer classes, with the following history:? Mrs C., aged 20, gave birth to her first child, a girl, on 25th December 1873, being then 16 J years of age, and to a second girl on 14th June 1875. The labours on both occasions were easy; the children, well-formed and healthy, were nursed by the mother. She fell in labour at the full term of her third pregnancy on 17th March 1877, and, as usual, after a labour which was not attended with any notable escape of liquor amnii or other special feature, a healthy, well-developed, but small-sized, girl was born. The umbilical cord was tied in two places, and divided between the ligatures. The child was laid aside, and the nurse was holding the cord, without, she

Neuropathological and anatomopathological analyses of acardiac and "normal" siblings in an acardiac-twin pregnancy.
Acardiac twinning is a very rare complication of multiple pregnancy. The authors present the neuropathological and anatomopathological description of the twins of the multiple pregnancy complicated by the acardiac foetus and terminated at 26 weeks of gestation. An anatomopathological examination of the "normal" twin showed hyaline membrane syndrome, cardiomegaly and hepatomegaly. Neuropathologi...
متن کاملExhibition of a Fœtus Thrown off during an Attack of Smallpox
Professor Simpson exhibited a five and a half months' foetus, which had been thrown off by a patient labouring under a severe attack of smallpox. The pustules were distinctly seen all over the foetus, especially on its back. With regard to the time a dead foetus is retained in utero, Prof. Simpson stated that three weeks generally suffices for expelling it; the membranes and placenta first unde...
متن کاملEffects of ischaemia and hypoxia on the development of the nervous system in acardiac foetus.
The twin-reversed arterial perfusion (TRAP) sequence and development of an acardius are rare and severe complications in monozygotic twin pregnancy. Haemodynamic disturbances in placental perfusion via abnormal vascular anastomoses allow inter-twin transfusion to occur. Because of blood perfusion, one of the twins is poorly oxygenated and contains metabolic waste products. Retrograde placental ...
متن کاملAcardius acephalus in a goat kid – radiological and gross findings: a case report
We received a malformed Messinese Black goat foetus for examination. The foetus was part of a triple gestation, from which two male kids presented no morphological abnormalities and underwent regular slaughtering. X-ray examination and necropsy were performed. On the basis of gross and radiological findings the malformation was classified as acardius acephalus. In human medicine, acardius is a ...
متن کاملAcardiac Twin: A Rare Case Report
Twin reversed arterial perfusion sequence (TRAP), refers to a rare, unique complication of mono-chorionic twin pregnancy in which a twin with an absent or a nonfunctioning heart (acardiac twin) is perfused by its co-twin (pump twin) via placental arterial anastomoses. The acardiac twin usually has a poorly developed heart, upper body and head. The pump twin is at risk of heart failure and probl...
